NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - A Florida man has been convicted in a fatal drunken driving crash.
The Naples Daily News reports that 42-year-old Rene Miles was found guilty Tuesday of DUI manslaughter and DUI causing serious bodily injury. He faces up to 22 years in prison at his Aug. 14 sentencing.
Prosecutors say Miles was speeding and driving drunk in December 2015 when he rear-ended an SUV, which then slammed into a minivan. The crash killed 33-year-old James Riner and injured three others. Authorities say Miles never called 911, didn’t render aid and drove a quarter of a mile before stopping.
Miles’ blood alcohol content was recorded as 0.139 to 0.14 percent more than six hours after the crash. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08 percent.
