ARIETTA, N.Y. (AP) - New York environmental officials have extended the public comment period for proposed changes to three state campgrounds on Piseco Lake in the southeastern Adirondacks.

The new management plan for Poplar Point, Little Sand Point and Point Comfort campgrounds calls for converting Poplar Point into a free day-use and boat launch area. Staff and resources would be moved to the two nearby campgrounds.

All three campgrounds are on the shore of Piseco Lake along County Route 24 in the Hamilton County town of Arietta.

The Department of Environmental Conservation is holding a public meeting on the proposed plan on June 14 at the Arietta Town Hall. The comment period ends June 16.

The agency says it wants to close Poplar Point to camping because of limited attendance.
