SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A Salem woman who crashed a stolen police car has been sentenced to prison.
Rebecca Payne was arrested in February for a parole violation and placed in a patrol car. The officer adjusted Payne’s handcuffs after she complained of severe pain.
While officers were outside the vehicle talking to others, Payne slipped out of the handcuffs, got into the driver’s seat and drove away. She crashed during a chase.
The Statesman Journal reports (https://is.gd/fy4LYw) Payne received a two-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to vehicle theft, fleeing a police officer and recklessly endangering another person.
The 26-year-old also pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft in a different case and was sentenced to an additional three years and six months in prison.
