BATH, N.H. (AP) - One historic general store in New Hampshire has reopened a year after it was sold at auction, while another is up for auction this month.
The Brick Store in Bath reopened on July Fourth. It was built more than 200 years ago and was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
Becky and Scott Mitchell bought it at auction last July and worked on renovations. Becky Mitchell said Thursday a grand opening is planned for August.
The Francestown Village Store is scheduled for auction on July 20. Established in 1814, it’s been home to banks, a post office, harness maker, jeweler and fire department. Its owners held fundraisers in an attempt to cover back taxes.
The stores claim to be the two oldest continuously operating general stores in the country.
