BRIAN HEAD, Utah (AP) - Firefighters are making progress on a wildfire burning near a southern Utah ski resort town that’s forced evacuations of nearby homes for more than two weeks.
Fire officials said Tuesday that the 105 square mile (272 square kilometer) blaze near of the town of Brian Head was 70 percent contained.
Elayn Briggs, a spokeswoman for the firefighting agencies, said lower temperatures and light winds expected were expected Tuesday as crews worked to slow the growth on its northern side.
Briggs says a handful of small communities remained under evacuation orders Tuesday, leaving about 300 people out of their homes.
The wildfire was started June 17 by a man burning a pile of weeds.
