ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to charges in a 2016 hit-and-run that left a cyclist in a coma for about two months.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that a judge sentenced 28-year-old Joseph Tyler Henry to serve 19 months minimum to 32 months maximum in the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections. Henry pleaded guilty to one count of felony hit-and-run with serious injury, speeding, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Henry struck Anthony Leyva from behind in November 2016 as Leyva rode home from his job on a bike that had the legally required blinking lights on the front and back. Leyva suffered brain, heart and spinal damage, as well as broken bones and other injuries.
