FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (AP) - A man convicted of fatally shooting his mother, stepfather and stepbrother inside the family’s rural upstate New York home six years ago has been sentenced to more than eight decades in prison.
A Washington County Court judge sentenced 29-year-old Matthew Slocum on Friday to 82½ years in state prison. The sentence comes three weeks after a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder and arson in his second trial for the July 2011 slayings.
Prosecutors say Slocum used a shotgun to kill 44-year-old Lisa Coon Harrington, her husband, 41-year-old Dan Harrington, and his 24-year-old son, Joshua O’Brien, as they slept in their home in the town of White Creek.

His original conviction in 2012 was overturned by an appeals court that ruled he was denied his right to a lawyer while being questioned by investigators.
