Montana elected officials awarded pay raises

HELENA, Mont. (AP) - Montana’s elected officials were awarded pay raises effective July 1.

The Great Falls Tribune reports (gftrib.com/2tRiGbg) Attorney General Tim Fox, who is the highest paid, also saw the largest percentage raise. His annual salary increased by 11 percent to $137,000.

State law requires Montana to set salaries for elected officials at the average salary paid for similar positions in Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

Gov. Steve Bullock received a 3.5 percent raise to $115,505 while Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney got a 0.7 percent raise to just under $87,000.

The secretary of state and auditor each received a 3.7 percent increase, to $95,700, but Auditor Matt Rosendale declined his because state agencies are making cuts due to a decrease in tax revenue. The superintendent of public instruction got a 2.4 percent raise to $107,000.

Members of the Public Service Commission, Supreme Court Justices and District Court judges were awarded raises of at least 5 percent.
