The District’s Fox affiliate, WTTG, celebrated 70 years on the air Tuesday, commemorating the seven decades since WTTG became the first commercial TV station in the nation’s capital.

According to Fox5DC.com, the initials “TTG” were named in honor of Thomas T. Goldsmith, chief engineer for DuMont, the company that initially owned the station when it went on the air in 1947.

The station is encouraging District residents to tweet their favorite memories of watching Fox 5 over the past 70 years using the hashtag #5at70.
