CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The head of New Hampshire’s embattled child services agency says she plans to retire on April 1.
Lorraine Bartlett has worked at the Division for Children, Youth and Families for nearly 30 years, serving as director for three. She announced her retirement plans Thursday.
Her departure comes as DCYF faces scrutiny following several high profile child deaths. An outside review found the department too often fails to protect children and that its staff is overworked.
Bartlett says she is retiring to spend more time with her husband.
She says she takes great pride in her work with the agency and understands the challenges it faces.
Health Commissioner Jeff Meyers is thanking Bartlett for her “ceaseless efforts” on behalf of children and families. A search for her replacement will begin immediately.
