ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - The family of a woman who tossed her 2-month-old daughter in her car seat into the woods in Orangeburg County is asking authorities to get the woman help.
Deputies charged 24-year-old Zapporah Sutton with unlawful neglect of a child, saying she told family members if she wasn’t arrested, she would kill the baby and her two other children.
At Sutton’s bond hearing, The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported (https://bit.ly/2j84Dc6 ) that victim advocate Alexis Guinyard told a judge the baby likely would have been seriously injured if she wasn’t in the car seat.
Sutton’s family says they think she is suffering from postpartum depression and needs mental help.
A judge denied bond after Guinyard asked that Sutton be held in jail at least long enough to get a mental evaluation.
