PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A prominent civil rights lawyer and opponent of the death penalty is the latest person to announce he’s running against Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams.
Philly.com (https://bit.ly/2kQgTQe ) reports Lawrence Krasner is the fifth Democrat to announce he’s running against Williams in the spring primary. A former prosecutor, Beth Grossman, is running as a Republican.
Krasner says there are ways to make the city safer without incarcerating more minorities and poor people. And he says because Pennsylvania isn’t executing anyone under a moratorium imposed by Gov. Tom Wolf, a fellow Democrat, that it’s a waste of time and resources to pursue the death penalty.
The other Democrats running including former assistant prosecutors Joe Khan and Michael Untermeyer; former city managing director Rich Negrin; and former municipal court judge Teresa Carr Deni.
