SEATTLE (AP) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will proceed with a contract to upgrade and expand the central treatment plant at the Bunker Hill Superfund site near Kellogg, Idaho.
The project is expected to cost more than $48 million.
The work is part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to clean up a century of mining pollution in the Coeur d’Alene River Basin.
The EPA says the improvements to the central treatment plant are a big step forward for the cleanup, and will create local jobs and give the economy a boost. The entire project is expected to take about four years.
