RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The former longtime chairman of the State Board of Elections and a Court of Appeals candidate last fall have been appointed to local judgeships by North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.
Cooper announced Friday filling three judicial vacancies. He named Larry Leake a District Court judge covering five northwestern counties. Leake served as an elections board member or chairman until 2013. The Madison County attorney was the public face of several campaign finance investigations of top state politicians in the 2000s.
Cooper elevated Wake County District Court Judge Vince Rozier to Superior Court, filling the vacancy left by Mike Morgan’s election to the state Supreme Court. Rozier lost a Court of Appeals race in November.
The governor also named Marion Boone a District Court judge for Stokes and Surry counties.
