MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) - A Skagit County sheriff’s deputy was taken to a hospital after an incident at a jail where he was lodged following a domestic violence arrest.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports (https://goo.gl/UmXJbi ) deputy Russell Whitmore was taken from Island County Jail to the hospital Friday afternoon.
More information about Whitmore’s condition was not immediately available.
Whitmore was arrested Jan. 28 and charged in Skagit County District Court the next day with one count of assault, domestic violence, for allegedly choking his wife so severely that marks were visible on her neck a week later.
Initially he was being held on $100,000 bail, but it was increased Friday to $250,000.
Because he’s a deputy, much of Whitmore’s case will be handled outside of the county.
The Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office has until March 3 to file charges.
