Charges dropped against mentally ill man who killed brother

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Prosecutors have dismissed charges against a mentally ill man who attacked his siblings when he was eighteen.

Troy Hill Jr., of Penn Hills, was committed to a mental hospital after attacking his 11-year-old twin half-brothers in 2007. One of the boys died from injuries sustained in the attack. The Post-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2kQmTWc ) that Hill was arrested and later diagnosed with early-onset paranoid schizophrenia.

Hill was deemed incompetent to stand trial for years.

Assistant District Attorney Lisa Pellegrini sought to dismiss Hill’s case at an annual review hearing on Tuesday. Hill’s attorney, Lisa Middleman, says Hill worked to improve his mental health over an almost ten year span.

Hill must continue to receive treatment as part of the case.
