SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A man has been sentenced in a north Louisiana federal courtroom to serve 12 years in prison for conspiring to transport methamphetamine.
Acting U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook says in a news release that the sentence was handed down in Shreveport this week in the case of 37-year-old Maquel L. Shelby, of Hawthorne, California.
Prosecutors said Shelby pleaded guilty in August. He had been arrested after a traffic stop in January on Interstate 20 in Bossier (BOH’-zhur) Parish. The news release says state police found two pounds of meth in a vehicle search. It said Shelby admitted he had picked up the drugs in Shreveport and was taking them to Monroe.
