ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The New Mexico Public Education Department has identified four low-performing elementary schools as requiring rigorous intervention before the start of the next school year.
The Albuquerque Journal reports three schools in Albuquerque and one school in Dulce have received failing ratings for five or six consecutive years.
The schools will have to choose one of four options that include closing, relaunching as a charter or undergoing a significant restructure and redesign plan.
The schools have until early January to pick an option. If the schools don’t choose, the state will decide for them.
State officials say the school districts will likely select the restructure and redesign option.
The school districts must submit a plan to the state by February, and it will go into effect during the next school year.
