GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - A regional accrediting body has given a North Carolina college one last year to improve its financial picture.
The Greensboro News & Record reports that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges announced Tuesday that it would extend Bennett College’s probation for a second year.
The commission cited the historically black private women’s college for failing to comply with its standards for financial resources and financial stability.
The Greensboro college will be due for a review next December, at which point it will either be removed from probation or lose its accreditation.
University President Phyllis Worthy Dawkins said in a statement that they’re focusing on raising money and increasing enrollment. The college saw its first increase in first-year enrollment in seven years this fall.
