OREM, Utah (AP) - A Utah family is celebrating Christmas by honoring police officers who died within the last year.

The Daily Herald reports Dave and Sarah Farley, of Orem, are decorating their Christmas tree with blue ribbon, a blue and black star topper, black baubles with a thin blue line across their middle and strips of paper with the names of 118 fallen officers from 2017.

Sarah Farley’s 13-year-old son from a previous marriage, Jesse Burk, helped his mother and stepfather decorate the tree, as the family recited the officers’ names as they places their strip of paper on the tree.

This is the first time the Farleys opted for a fallen officer tree.

Dave Farley is a police officer with the Utah Valley University Police Department.
