The NFL and NFLPA will investigate the handling of Houston Texans quarterback Tom Savage after he suffered a concussion during Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Texans faced a heavy amount of criticism for allowing his return after replays showed Savage twitching on the ground after a big hit from 49ers linebacker Elvis Dumerville.

In a press conference Monday, Texans coach Bill O’Brien said Savage wouldn’t have returned if there was video on the sideline of the quarterback shaking.
“With benefit of seeing the video, obviously from my standpoint — the care for the player — I would have never let that player back into the game and I don’t believe [head trainer] Geoff Kaplan would have let that player back in the game,” O’Brien told reporters.
George Atallah, NFLPA assistant executive director of external affairs, said the player’s union is looking into the matter.

O’Brien said he expects T.J. Yates to start next week while Savage remains in concussion protocol.
Pro Football Talk reported Sunday that the league would also look into the matter, as they do with every injury.
