Bus driver’s DUI charge dismissed, witness couldn’t be found

GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming bus driver’s DUI charge has been dismissed because prosecutors could not locate a key witness.

Barbara J. Sleeth of Gillette was arrested on May 1 after someone reported a bus driving recklessly through a residential area, running stop signs, speeding and leaving the road.

Court records say Sleeth failed a field sobriety test and acknowledged taking several over-the-counter and prescribed medications the previous night. The 58-year-old also was charged with five counts of reckless endangering. There were five students on the bus.

The charges were dismissed on Friday.

Maureen Costello, a spokeswoman with the Campbell County Attorney’s Office, tells the Gillette News Record (https://bit.ly/2hFYF3B) that the charges likely would be refiled if the witness is located.
