MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man has been sentenced to life in prison for committing numerous armed robberies including a carjacking.
Acting U.S. Attorney A. Clark Morris says 35-year-old Tariq Khalil Jones was also sentenced to an additional 282 years on Tuesday. The Opelika-Auburn News reports the sentence for Jones was triggered by his four previous robbery convictions in state court.
The newspaper reports that federal law imposes a mandatory life sentence if the defendant is convicted in federal court of a serious violent felony and has two or more previous convictions for serious violent felonies.
