NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Roughly 100 families face evection from a New Orleans apartment complex that has been foreclosed.
WWL-TV reports residents at 6000 Chef Menteur Highway were told earlier this month they must leave by Sept. 9 and have been reaching out to city council members for help. The complex didn’t sell during a May auction and is now owned by Gulf Coast Bank.
Hannah Adams is a lawyer with Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, a group dedicated to aiding low-income people. She says the building doesn’t meet federal standards for Section 8 subsidies.
Property managing company Latter & Blum told residents they’d give them a $1,000 reimbursement for moving out by Aug. 31 but Adams says residents are living paycheck to paycheck.
WWL-TV hasn’t received responses after contacting Gulf Coast and Latter & Blum.
