LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 54-year-old inmate has died at a southern Nevada prison where he was serving 10 years to life for sexual assault.
Nevada Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Keast said Monday that Norman Fye died in the infirmary of High Desert State Prison on Aug. 3.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
Keast says the public announcement was delayed in part because an exhaustive search for next of kin failed to locate any family.
Fye had been at the prison 30 miles north of Las Vegas since 2011. He was convicted in Clark County on a charge of sexual assault of a victim under age 16.
Keast says prison officials are seeking the public’s assistance in finding someone who knew any of Fye’s family. If they do, they should call 775-350-0037.
