RENO, Nev. (AP) - A coalition of civil rights’ and other progressive groups plans a vigil in Reno to denounce the violence of white supremacists and remember the victims of a deadly clash between protesters at a weekend rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Leaders of the Reno/Sparks NAACP and the Northern Nevada Progressive Coalition are among those organizing the downtown rally Monday at 7:30 p.m. in a plaza along the Truckee River.
Patricia Gallimore, president of the local NAACP chapter, says it’s important to speak out against the violence, pain and suffering that took place when a car plowed into a crowd of counter-protesters as tensions turned violent at a related white-supremacists’ rally in Virginia.
Three people were left dead and dozens more injured.
Gallimore says the Reno vigil will be held in front of a large sculpture that says, “BELIEVE.”
