SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A well-known real estate developer and ex-board member at Utah’s public transit agency has been indicted on bankruptcy fraud charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that the 61-year-old Terry Diehl is accused of failing to report $1 million he made on a real estate deal for a new commuter rail line.

Diehl resigned from the Utah Transit Authority board in 2011 under scrutiny for his role in the project.

Diehl tells The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/2oIyWd7) that he disagrees with the details in the indictment and will prove his innocence.

Transit Authority spokesman Remi Barron says Diehl was sent a letter in 2015 demanding that he stop contacting the agency.

Federal prosecutors on Tuesday said they had agreed not to file charges against the agency in exchange for cooperation with a corruption investigation by people connected to the agency.
