ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police say a would-be robber is dead after a shootout with a convenience store clerk.

The shooting happened just before 4 a.m. Monday at a 7-Eleven store. Police say a 30-year-old man announced a robbery to a female clerk who was outside on a smoking break.

The woman had a gun and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. The man was shot in the chest, arm and thigh and was taken to a hospital, where he died.



The 35-year-old clerk was shot twice in the leg. Details about her condition were not immediately available.

Names have not been released.

Police say two guns were recovered at the scene.
