NYON, Switzerland (AP) - UEFA has fined Celtic 10,000 euros ($11,200) for fans displaying dozens of Palestinian flags at a Champions League game against a team from Israel.

UEFA says its disciplinary committee judged the Scottish champion guilty of a charge of displaying “illicit banners.”

Political banners and statements are prohibited in stadiums at UEFA-organized matches.

The flags were displayed in one corner of Celtic’s stadium in Glasgow at a 5-2 win over Hapoel Beer Sheva in a playoff match in August.

Celtic fans often display some Palestinian flags at domestic and European matches, though many more were brought for Hapoel Beer Sheva’s visit.
