New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garappolo got knocked out of Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins with a shoulder injury. That brought third-string rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett, the only other quarterback dressed, into the game. But what would have happened if Brissett got injured during the game?
According to Michael Lombardi, a former assistant to the coaching staff, wide receiver Julian Edelman would have been the emergency option, as first pointed out by boston.com.

That would have been pretty odd, seeing the team’s top wide receiver dropping back for a pass. But Edelman actually has history at quarterback.
At Kent State, Edelman played the position, throwing for 4,997 yards and 30 touchdowns in 31 games. He also added 2,483 yards on the ground and 22 touchdowns.
And starter Tom Brady, halfway through a four-game suspension, said the Patriots are comfortable this week with Edelman as their No. 2 signal-caller.
When Edelman was trying to make it to the NFL, he switched to wide receiver. But he still has a perfect track record of passing in the NFL. In the 2014 playoffs against the Baltimore Ravens, Edelman threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Danny Amendola.
