With 519 passing yards, a rushing touchdown and zero interceptions, Dallas Cowboys’ rookie quarterback Dak Prescott is creating a lot of buzz and excitement in the Lone Star State.
But, not so fast says Prescott. Just because Prescott, who set a rookie record on Sunday for the most pass attempts by a rookie without throwing an interception in his first two games, has looked extremely solid, it doesn’t mean he’s taking over the team from Tony Romo.
“This is Romo’s team,” Prescott told Dallas News’ Brandon George. “I’ve said that from the moment that I was named the starter and he went down. I’m just trying to do my best to win games and put this team in a successful position to do that week in and week out and when he comes back I’ll leave that up to the big guys.”
Romo is, after all, the Cowboys’ all-time leader in passing yards (34,154), completion percentage (65.3) and touchdowns (247). So when he returns, Prescott expects he will take a back seat.
Romo is expected to return at some point. But, with Romo’s recent run of injuries, which includes two separate collarbone injuries and a back injury in a short span of games, Prescott may be relied on at some point again this season if Romo gets injured again.
Make no mistake, Prescott has proven this can one day be his team. But, for now, it still belongs to Romo.
