In 2014, John Boehner told Jay Leno, “I smoke cigarettes and I’m not giving that up to be President of the United States.” The former House Speaker’s new gig, however, is unlikely to come with any such pressures.
Bloomberg News reported Thursday that Mr. Boehner is joining the board of directors for Reynolds American Inc., the Winston-Salem, North Carolina, company that makes the Ohio Republican’s favored Camel cigarettes.
Known to smoke in his U.S. Capitol offices, even in the presence of non-smoking colleagues, Mr. Boehner’s successor, Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan, reportedly needed an ozone machine to remove the stench of tobacco from the speaker’s office.
Mr. Boehner starts with Reynolds American immediately, Bloomberg said, citing a company statement.
