LANDOVER — After missing the entire preseason, rookie wide receiver Josh Doctson is active for the Washington Redskins’ season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.

Doctson, who was drafted No. 22 overall, had been dealing with left Achilles tendon tendinitis since rookie minicamp began in May. He aggravated the injury in organized team activities and was on the physically unable to perform list in training camp. The Redskins did not want to rush the former TCU standout back from the injury until they were certain he could handle the increased workload.

He returned to practice last week and was a full participant in last Saturday’s walkthrough after being limited on Wednesday and Thursday.

How much Doctson will play on Monday is less certain. He’s stayed sharp mentally in team meetings and has peppered his teammates with questions, but he’s yet to take snaps with the starting offense in a live game situation.

The following players are inactive: Guard Arie Kouandjio, center Austin Reiter, defensive end Anthony Lanier, wide receiver Rashad Ross, cornerback Kendall Fuller, safety Duke Ihenacho and quarterback Nate Sudfeld.
