BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A busy stretch of the New York State Thruway near Buffalo will soon have a noise barrier to reduce the impact on nearby residents.

The $6.7 million project in Cheektowaga also includes the extension of a lane and the construction of a new on-ramp to improve traffic flow.

The noise barrier will run in both directions between exits 51 and 50A.

Some 118,000 vehicles use that section of the Thruway each day. The project initially included only the traffic flow changes, but the noise barrier was added after state officials met with local residents.

Work at the site began this month and is set to be completed next fall.
