WASHINGTON (AP) - The head of a District of Columbia child welfare agency has resigned from his position with the organization, which is criticized for failing to investigate reports of possible abuse.
The Washington Post reports (https://wapo.st/2dJAJH5 ) that Child and Family Services Agency Director Raymond Davidson resigned from his post last week to pursue other opportunities, but declined to provide details.
An independent monitor said the agency has not adequately investigated reports of child abuse. The agency was sued in 1989 over its alleged failure to protect children in its custody.
No child welfare cases have recently resulted in fatalities due to abuse, however officials acknowledge that there are problems.
Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Brenda Donald will serve as interim director.
