TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey doctor has admitted concealing more than $3.6 million to evade taxes and to paying kickbacks for referrals.
Dr. Manoj Patharkar of South Amboy pleaded guilty Monday on behalf of Pain Management Associates of Central Jersey to conspiracy, money-laundering and tax charges.
Prosecutors say Patharkar diverted money and paid up to $1.5 million in kickbacks to 13 doctors to refer patients to his pain clinics.
Prosecutors will recommend the doctor be sentenced up to 10 years in prison and pay a $500,000 penalty.
