COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - A Harlan man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for possessing child pornography.
The Daily Nonpareil reports (https://bit.ly/2dxZhkB ) that 55-year-old Michael Charles Garreans pleaded guilty to the charge on June 9. He was sentenced Thursday.
In addition to his five-year sentence, he will be on supervised release for seven years following his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
The charge stemmed from an investigation into a site monitored by law enforcement, which identified Garreans before executing a search warrant of his home in Harlan.
U.S. Attorney Kevin VanderSchel says officers found a computer in Garreans’ home that contained ’hundreds of images of child pornography.”
