OZARK, Mo. (AP) - A mother says “crying isn’t enough” after her boyfriend was charged with killing the couple’s 2-month-old daughter in southwest Missouri.

The Springfield News-Leader (https://sgfnow.co/2e7bBLa ) reports that Ren Jones says she wanted to give her daughter, Iris Church, “everything.”

Thirty-nine-year-old James Church has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in Christian County. He’s also charged with three counts of abuse or neglect of a child.

His public defender didn’t immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press.

Court documents say Church told Ozark police he was alone with Iris on Oct. 3 when he shook her and then dropped her onto an inflatable couch from chest height. The girl died later in a St. Louis hospital, and a medical examination showed she suffered broken ribs previously.
