DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - A judge in Durango considering a new sentence for a man who was convicted of killing a Southern Ute woman when he was 17.
The Durango Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2dtg78L ) that Raymond Cain is the first person in Colorado to get a re-sentencing hearing under a U.S. Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that prohibits juveniles from being sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
Cain was convicted of the 1995 killing of 18-year-old Sadie Frost and the shooting of another woman. Prosecutors at the time say Cain shot the women as part of a robbery.
Testimony started Thursday and is expected to resume Friday in the re-sentencing proceedings. The judge could sentence Cain to anything between 30 years in prison with credit for time served to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
