JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Officials say ten municipalities and agencies in New Jersey have been awarded $13.7 million in federal money to hire new police officers.
The Jersey Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2dk6Z6j ) the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office received $1.5 million in federal money to hire a dozen new officers.
Sheriff Frank Schillari says the grant money is an “instrumental resource” in allowing them to maintain adequate force numbers to keep residents safe.
Paterson police received $2.8 million. Jersey City police, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office and Camden County police each received nearly $2 million.
More than 180 law enforcement agencies nationwide received $119 million.
