DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality says a consent order resolving a civil complaint over leaking underground fuel storage tanks calls for a suburban Detroit company to close 21 sites.
State officials say Monday that Knight Enterprises failed to comply with reporting and corrective action requirements to address environmental contamination.
At a site in Dearborn Heights, contamination occurred after waste oil and fuel oil were released from underground tanks at a gas station.
Knight also will pay the Department of Environmental Quality $100,000 to resolve past corrective action costs. Knight also is on the hook for future corrective costs incurred by the state at the 21 sites.
The Associated Press left a message Monday seeking comment from Novi-based Knight.
