PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Republic says endorsing Hillary Clinton for president has led to threats of violence against the newspaper’s employees over the past two weeks.
In a letter to readers, publisher Mi-Ai Parrish said callers have threatened acts such as bombings and arson and screamed at young people going door-to-door selling subscriptions.
She also explained how the editorial board carefully considered its decision before backing a Democratic presidential candidate for the first time in its more than 125-year history. The board had determined that Republican Donald Trump’s principles “weren’t conservative” and rather “bad for Arizona, dangerous for America.”
Parrish responded to the threats by pointing out several examples of the paper’s adherence to journalistic standards and the First Amendment.
