PITTSBURGH (AP) - A judge has set a retrial date for a man accused of starting a 1995 fire in Pittsburgh that killed three firefighters.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2dxUeBg ) a judge on Wednesday scheduled jury selection for Jan. 4 in Greg Brown’s retrial. Testimony is scheduled to begin the following week.
Brown had been convicted in 1997 of three second-degree murder counts in the deaths of Thomas Brooks, Patricia Conroy and Marc Kolenda.
Prosecutors said he set the blaze in order to collect a $20,000 renter’s insurance policy.
Brown’s conviction was thrown out two years ago after the defense said prosecutors and a federal agent failed to turn over evidence that witnesses were offered money in exchange for their testimony.
