PHOENIX (AP) - A former Phoenix firefighter accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman under a Glendale bridge last month has pleaded not guilty.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say 52-year-old Jeffrey Charles Wilson entered his plea Thursday.

Wilson was jailed on suspicion of sexual assault, kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and ordered held without bond on Sept. 28.

The woman told police she was walking in the early hours of Sept. 25 when a vehicle drove past her several times and a man started following her on foot.

The woman says the man grabbed her by the hair, pulled her under the bridge, pointed a gun at her and sexually assaulted her.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say Wilson was demoted from captain earlier this year and fired in July.
