NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - A south Mississippi man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a head-on crash that killed a teenager in another vehicle.
The Natchez Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/2eLL3jD ) 31-year-old Scotty Ardell Cater was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to culpable negligence manslaughter.
District Attorney Ronnie Harper says that on May 18, 2015, Cater tried to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone on U.S. Highway 98 while speeding up a hill topped by a curve.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol says a pickup driven by Cater hit a car driven by 16-year-old Cheyenne Kinnaird of Franklin County. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her passenger and Cater were injured.
Adams County jail records show Cater has a Natchez address, but court records show he has a Brookhaven address.
