“Rogue One” the latest movie in the Star Wars franchise will lack the iconic opening-sequence crawl, Variety magazine reported on Nov. 22.
“We felt that’s so indicative of what those saga films are,” said Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, reported Variety. “Initially, we probably will begin the film in a way that is traditional, with just the title.”
Hitting the silver screen on Dec. 16, the movie follows “a group of unlikely heroes [who] band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction,” according to the movie’s official website.
Beloved by movie buffs generally and Star Wars fans particularly, the trademark opening sequence has resulted in YouTube mashups of the opening sequences of all seven Star Wars movies to date plus a website where you can create your own Star Wars-style crawl.
