PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A 32-year-old Cranston man charged with fatally stabbing his former girlfriend’s new boyfriend has pleaded not guilty to murder.
Fredi Lopez entered the plea Wednesday in Providence. He was ordered held without bail.
Police say Lopez went to his ex-girlfriend’s Providence apartment in July and confronted 33-year-old Andres Arguijo-Acosta. At some point, investigators say Lopez grabbed a knife and stabbed Arguijo-Acosta, who died at a hospital. Lopez was later arrested in Cranston.
Lopez’s lawyer has said his client’s family called the allegations completely out of character for Lopez.
Lopez is due back in court Jan. 12.
