The NFL announced that Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after his Week 11 performance against the Green Bay Packers.

Cousins, 28, completed 21 of his 30 pass attempts for 375 yards and 3 touchdowns in the 42-24 win. His 145.8 passer rating was his highest single-game total of the season.

This is Cousins’ third time winning the honor. Cousins was named the Player of the Week in Weeks 7 and 10 last season. He has now joined wide receiver Art Monk (five), quarterback Mark Rypien (four) and wide receiver Santana Moss (three) as the only players in Redskins’ history to earn three NFC Player of the Week awards since its inception in 1984.

Cousins is the 91st Redskin to win the award and the 39th offensive player in franchise history to win the award.

Since Week 8’s tie against the Cincinnati Bengals, Cousins has thrown for 1,095 yards, 7 touchdowns and just one interception in three games. Cousins said that it is difficult to put a finger on one specific thing that is beginning to click for he and the Redskins’ offense.

“I think it’s been a combination of factors,” Cousins said. “I don’t think it’s any one thing or even two things. I think it takes so many people. We got to have a great game plan, Sean McVay has not only got to design the right play, but he’s got to call them at the right times. And we have to execute them. We got to throw with accuracy, we’ve got to make the catches, we’ve got to protect. I thought the guys have done a good job protecting in Trent’s absence. We’re running the football well, and receivers are blocking well, tight ends are making plays. It’s just so many factors that have to combine for an offense to go in the right direction.”

Cousins, who is a captain of the team, is also gaining respect in the locker room for his ability to lead both on and off the field.

“Kirk, he’s been doing great,” safety Su’a Cravens said. “He’s definitely stepped it up and last game he showed us that he wants to be that guy and he can be. With a performance like that, it’s hard to say that he isn’t.”

“He’s playing unbelievable right now,” wide receiver Jamison Crowder said. “He’s got confidence coming off of Sunday’s victory.”

Cousins and the Redskins take on the 9-1 Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day. The Redskins, currently sitting in third place in the NFC East with a 6-3-1 record, currently hold the second Wild Card spot in the NFC.
