GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office has fired its public information officer nearly three months after a judge determined that she talked to a juror during a capital murder case.
Local media outlets report Christy Wallace was fired after admitting during a hearing that she talked to a juror in the triple-homicide trial of Antwan Andrew Anthony. The hearing was held to determine if Anthony should receive a retrial or resentencing hearing because of Wallace’s actions.
Superior Court Judge Robert Hobgood found that while Wallace did talk to a juror, she didn’t influence the jury.
Anthony was sentenced to death on April 5 after a jury found him guilty of killing three convenience store workers during an armed robbery four years ago.
Wallace was fired on Monday.
