If there’s anything Baltimoreans love more than their Orioles, it’s crabs. Now thanks to a bench-clearing brawl Tuesday night, O’s third baseman Manny Machado may enjoy a free lifetime supply of the Maryland state crustacean.
“Free crab cakes, steamed crabs, and meal prep FOR LIFE for Manny Machado,” tweeted Jimmy’s Famous Seafood while Tuesday’s Orioles-Royals matchup was still in progress. “Real man - definitely not SAWFT!!!” the restaurant cheered, attaching a photo showing Machado punching Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura.
Machado stormed the mound in the bottom of the fifth inning after being hit by an errant inside pitch. Earlier in the game the Orioles slugger mouthed off at Ventura after flying out: a previous pitch in the at-bat had come perilously close to hitting Machado.
Jimmy’s is no stranger to making lifetime seafood offers to professional ball players. As WBAL.com reported in January, the restaurant offered New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes steamed crabs for life if he would just “sign on the dotted line” with the Orioles.
Jimmy’s made a similar offer in December when the Orioles and first baseman Chris Davis were amid tense contract negotiations.
“Please come back to the @Orioles. If you do, free #crabcakesfor life. And ur kids. And their kids,” the seafood restaurant pleaded via Twitter.
